Can You See How I See
"Can You See How I See?" is a one-hour Visionalist Entertainment Productions documentary produced by filmmaker Keith Famie , through real life stories we step into the world of the blind and visually impaired. These are men, women, and children who were born blind or who lost their sight through accident or disease. The film aired on the Michigan NBC affiliate WDIV-TV4 as a commercial free special as well as on DPTV/PBS. The film was nominated for a Michigan Emmy.
Excelling through disability is the heart of our journey, and through it, Famie follows the young and the old, the newly sightless and the veteran blind, the musicians and artists, the athletes, soldiers, and business leaders, who have succeeded in a world not made for them. We experience first-hand how the blind utilize their other senses, developing them to a level that the sighted my have difficulty comprehending.
We follow touching stories from the special children's camp for the blind in western Michigan, Camp Tuhmeheta with camp director George Wurtzel . We witness the training of international students at Leaderdogs for the Blind. Then we follow them back to their homes in Santiago Chile to see how their new partner impacts their lives. We spend time with blinded soldiers and war veterans as they rediscover their potential to be all that they can be. We try to keep up with Captain Ivan Castro, a blinded soldier in the Iraq war, as he completes the New York City Marathon and climbs a 14,000 ft. mountain. We mingle backstage with the Grammy Award winning group, The Blind Boys of Alabama. All of this and more will be featured as we go behind the scenes to witness the unique magic of the sightless world. Our goal, through it all, is to see how they see.
